More Than Us is a collaborative project which brings together the government agency, Scottish Natural Heritage, with Scottish visual artists, Dalziel + Scullion. They have worked closely to produce two major projects that will be delivered in 2007, the Year of Highland Culture.

Scottish Natural Heritage has a vast and detailed knowledge of Scotland’s natural environment: from the conservation of biodiversity and monitoring of designated sites, to providing greater opportunities for access to the countryside, predicting the impact of climate change and promoting sustainable development. As such, SNH possesses a unique overview of our small but staggeringly diverse and fragile country.

Earlier this year, SNH approached the artists Matthew Dalziel + Louise Scullion and commissioned them - through project managers Ginkgo - to make a permanent work for their new head office in Inverness and to organise a one day symposium that would further explore issues raised through their unique collaboration. Currently underway is the construction of a five panel photographic work that explores the delicate habitat of a rare breed of day flying moth – the Slender Scotch Burnet – which exists in just a handful of small colonies on the Isle of Mull, off the west of Scotland.

This website will document the development of the project and give information on the symposium, which takes place on the 29th – 30th November 2007.

The symposium has been managed by Finefunds.
